Why SEM?

About the Collaborative

The Collaborative builds on a strong foundation of Strategic Energy Management resources originally developed through initiatives (such as the former SEMHub.com) led by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) and later supported by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).

Today, the Collaborative advances this work as an independent 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization, expanding resources and connecting practitioners across North America.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Working Groups?

Working Groups have always been open to anyone interested in volunteering their time, they have recently made a more concerted effort to invite members from the broader SEMC community to join, lead, and propose new topics. The SEMC will manage the Work Groups with the support of a Working Group committee comprised of NW members.

Do I have to be a paying member of the SEMC to participate?

Most of the resources and activities currently available through SEMC will remain available and free of charge, such as access to the resource library and participation in Working Groups.

Paying members of SEMC may get access to additional benefits, such as participation in exclusive research and access to event discounts. To learn more or become a paying member of SEMC, visit our Memberships page.

Do you provide customized solutions for different businesses?

Yes, we provide resources and standards for SEM strategies to meet the unique needs and goals of each business and industry , regardless of size.

What makes SEMC different from other industry groups?

SEMC is more than a professional association. We are the collaborative home for Strategic Energy Management (SEM) practitioners across North America.

Unlike many industry organizations, SEMC is dedicated exclusively to advancing Strategic Energy Management. We bring together utilities, program administrators, consultants, researchers, solution providers, regulators, and practitioners to share knowledge, solve common challenges, and shape the future of the field.

Through our Working Groups, regional Chapters, educational events, and member community, SEMC creates opportunities for peer learning, leadership development, and collaboration that help strengthen both individual organizations and the SEM profession as a whole. Rather than competing with existing organizations, we work alongside them to build the shared knowledge, best practices, and professional connections that move Strategic Energy Management forward.
